Rooted in community and creativity, Aminah Robinson brought to life the stories of her childhood, spirituality, and ancestry through vibrant mixed-media works. This installment of Art After Dark centers on the diverse narratives of our city, inviting guests for an immersive evening of storytelling and memory-making.
The evening features a hands-on workshop exploring the historic community of Africatown through a textile printing exercise. Participants will work with fabric scraps and embellish their pieces with buttons—symbolizing the souls within our shared community.
In addition to art-making, the event highlights local Black-owned businesses and creatives. Power Line Poets will perform original spoken word pieces in the gallery, written in direct response to Robinson’s work. We will provide a live jazz backdrop, while guests enjoy a specialty “Storyteller Spritz” and curated refreshments.
The program bridges past and future by inviting local Black designers to showcase fashion inspired by Robinson’s aesthetic, fostering a connection between her legendary body of work and the future of Mobile’s fashion scene. We invite the Mobile community to join us for this celebration of art, design, and heritage.
